An Ember In The Ashes

     This was a saying of Gens.Veturius in the world famous book series "An Ember in the ashes" by Sabaa Tahir.

     What will be your reaction if you have been chosed for 'Blackcliff Academy'? an academy where you have ton select between serving the Emperor and merciless death. Little Elias was snatched from his Mamie Rila (adopted mother) to become a dreadful warrior, lifetime server and Mask for the Empire. But he wouldn't have survived Blackcliff without his best friend 'Helene'.

     Helene - my most favourite character, being the only girl in an academy she bested all students and became 

'Blood Shrike'(second in command after Emperor).

     Surviving the Blackcliff became a nightmare under the ruthless commandent- 'Keris Veturius'. Yeah you are right, birth mother of Elias who was even more fiery for her son. Anyone even thinking of deserting the academy would be the victim of her wrath (usually death).

"Your face looks familiar, have I threatened you before?"

 I will literally choose death over facing Keris's wrath!!

     The Empire rules everywhere and on everyone including Scholars- who once were the powerful ones!

     There is death, destruction, pain, suffering, war in this book with a pinch of sweet friendship, family and unconditional love.

     Laia- a Scholar girl who became the Scholar rebel after watching her family suffer in the hands of Empire. She made Elias recognise his kindness and turned him from oppressor to rebel. And they both fulfilled their destinies by suffering and burning to finally become "An Ember in the Ashes."

     Will any story be ever completed without villain?

       Obviously nooo!!!

    The 'Nightbringer' ( Jinn with magical powers and immense knowledge) was the main person behind Empire's oppression on Scholars.

    Nobody is villain from start, every villain has its story of their suffering and pain. The Nightbringer was once 'Mehereya'- most lovable and loved person. Selfless, dutiful and happy until scholars destroyed his Jinn friends, family for powers , thousands of years ago. And thus Mehereya ended up being Nightbringer !!

     I personally never hated him but had a lot of sympathy instead!!
